The newest article on LDS.org talks about the Book of Abraham. As usual, many details about why the papyri that have been found all but prove that Joseph’s translation is incorrect are missing, and the discussion on this is worded very carefully. They kind of brush over details of texts Joseph had access to that mirror several elements in The Book of Abraham, leaving the reader who doesn’t check the facts to assume that there are quite a few things that he “translated” in the book that he “couldn’t” have known. I expected the explanation about the possibility of it not being a direct translation, but more of an inspired revelation. Because if all else fails and it looks like a complete fraud, it can still be true!
These articles, to me, are like the white-washed versions of Mormon apologetics. They go just deep enough to help ease some doubt and not ask further questions. Although for some, it can be the beginning of the end.
